Supercomputers = Perpetual Motion Machine

Ok, they're not really perpetual motion machines, but their continued improvement certainly looks like one. Take a look at this graph from the group that rates the top 500 supercomputers:

It's almost a perfect exponential growth! At this rate, when I'm 50 and super rich I might buy the 500th fastest supercomputer running at 1 ZETAFLOP! At the same time, SI will be scrambling to make up more Star Trek like names because the #1 supercomputer will already be at a Yottaflop, and Wikipedia doesn't have any more names.
Yes, I had to look those up - which makes this even more ridiculous.

Stab resistant wool => More practicle uses

Some researchers in New Zealand have unveiled some special modified wool that is stab resistant. I don't know about you, but I hope that this means that in the future I'll be able to wear socks forever without getting holes in them.

The evil in Hybrids (perhaps the only evil in them)

That's right - something evil about Hybrids. They sneak up on you. Not a problem if you're inside a car, but if you're blind or being trailed as a pedestrian, you could be up for an injury. Read about it at the New York Times. Laws are being passed, and we could have noisemakers in hybrids within 4 years.

I wonder what it'll sound like. There was a brief mention of how annoying those beeping things are on utility vehicles. I couldn't imagine it'll be loud enough to hear from the inside of the car - that'd be really annoying. I guess the noisemaker isn't needed when the engine's running, which normally happens at higher speeds. I could only imagine that these noisemakers will be hacked to play popular music.

1200fps video at home. My hopes are realized

A few months ago I wrote about a camera that can record video at speeds up to 1200 fps. All I wanted to do is get a hold of it and record something in super slow-mo. Now, a blogger at Gizmodo has satisfied my urge. Here's 3 videos of putting a tomato into a food processor. I can only hope to have the same experience some day.

Computers - Dirt Cheap and Decent

I do a little work with computer systems, and I've found that older computers work great with my software. Now it seems like e-bay has been flooded with them. I just bought 4 computers for $170 plus $30 shipping; thats $50 per computer! These are somewhat decent computers too. 512MB of Ram, 1.5Ghz Processor, and Windows XP - The combined total is a decent computer for office applications and internet browsing. Dell is clearly the winner of the refurbished system competition. If these prices continue, you can bet I'll be selling "High end internet wireless router systems." Here's the rundown:
